The last two weeks have focused the world's attention once again on violence in the Middle East. Certainly the situation is complicated and a host of political and other issues are at stake, not only for Israelis and Palestinians, but also for the rest of the world. Even so, to watch the death toll climb should break our hearts, especially when such a high percentage of the casualties are civilians, women, and children trapped inside the combat zone.
